We voluntarily associate with the following: Sierra Baptist Assoc., Nevada Baptist Convention, and The Southern Baptist Convention.
We are a Southern Baptist Church. Every Southern Baptist Church is completely independent. Our denomination does not control us as some denominations do. We govern ourselves in all affairs. We choose our own pastor, own our buildings, and determine our programs. We financially support mission work by giving 10 percent (10%) of our income to the Cooperative Program.
Essentials we Believe
Here are some essentials that our church believes. God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God"
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all the people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again some day to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The Holy Spirit. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He also lives in every Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.
The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian's beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.
Salvation is God's free gift to us. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation through Christ. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with God is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.
The church is a fellowship of Baptized believers. Redeemed by Christ and born into the family of God. The church is autonomous and subject only to Christ, its Head.
Why Join a Church?
We believe God expects every Christian to belong to a local church. A Christian without a church family is a contradiction in terms (Ephesians 2: 19-22).
Here are five reasons that you need to join with a local church.
1. A Biblical Reason: Christ is committed to the church. Christ loved the church, and He gave His life for it. (Ephesians 5:25)
2. Maturity Reason: While you can be a Christian without a church, we have found you will not be a strong or mature one. The best environment for Christian maturity is found in the Church.
3. Support Reason: We try to minister and care for our membership. We pray for them, visit them, encourage them and comfort them.
4. Ministry Reason: FBC has a team roster. It shows who can be counted on to help and serve. We found members are more involved in service or ministry more often than non-members. Every member has a ministry at First Baptist Church-Sun Valley.
5. Personal Reason: Spiritual stability occurs in the church. "Lone Ranger Christians" are often unstable and undependable. Christians need a church family to remain strong and grow. The happiest and healthiest Christians are those involved in a local church. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
